How can incorporating environmentally friendly Smart Building technology in buildings help improve the lives of its residents? This question was the central theme of the International Green Building Conference held in Singapore in late 2018, Hannah Koh reported in an article for Eco-Businesss.com recently.
Digital technologies used in Smart Buildings or Green Buildings have long been used to improve energy efficiency through the use of data analytics and IoT (Internet of Things) technology. Panelists at the conference offered three ways of incorporating these technologies to make for happier residents: first, analysis of consumption data, such as electricity usage statistics, can help building managers direct resources in a more effective manner and make better decisions. Second, smart building systems that are interconnected and interoperable help building managers lower setup and operational costs. Finally, building technologies such as motion sensor lighting and fall-detection sensors may significantly help the elderly in staying mobile.
