Buildings must meet certain standards for water usage, electricity consumption, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) in order to be considered “green,” or energy efficient and sustainable. Developers and property owners invest in these areas because green buildings have many payoffs besides a smaller environmental footprint: these benefits include decreased operation costs, higher standard of living for those who live or work in such buildings, and higher ROI. So, as green building standards become more valuable, developers and owners will continue seeking new solutions to fit them.
